- Final Project (MindMaps & Essay) -

Animation Mind Map

Creative Multimedia Mind Map

What has Animation influenced the World?
Animation is defined as a type of optical illusion. It involves the appearance of motion caused by displaying still images one after another. It is often used for entertainment purposes. In addition to its use for entertainment, animation is considered as a form of art. Animation has a place in learning and instructional applications as well which is also used for educational purposes. So, what has animation influenced the world?

Media plays an important role in animation, not only for the sake of showing it but also a way of giving and receiving it back. It is a tool or equipment used to convey messages to people like us. Without media, the world cannot communicate and people do not have the chance to voice out their feelings, suggestions, opinions and ideas. What would it be like when there is no media? Anyway, animations are being influenced through four main ways, the Internet, television, games and advertisements. Internet is the biggest or the broadest way to get information as fast as a prick of a finger. We could learned ways of making animations on certain sites like YouTube. This could teach beginners to learn by themselves through animation tutorials made by others. This is the part where sharing involves. Based on what we learned, we can easily convert it to our own animation and educated others. Other than that, some people do not have the Internet especially people from rural areas due to the lack of financial support. However, they have the television. Even though it is less limited in information transfer, it is still a media we can convey animation to people in those areas. They may not understand complex words so, animation is the only way to show those people who is less educated to understand. A picture is worth a thousand words but people will think in many ways while animation requires the action of a character, which explains through the television screen, which is the easiest way to interpret what is going on. Game is another medium that uses animations. Games are obviously using characters but animation is like story telling in the games we play adding graphics and dimension into it giving a more feel in the games. This is why people are easily addicted to games. If games do not have animation, it will look plain because it is not interesting enough. Finally, the advertisements we see everyday in television. Advertisement is to tell people on a product you are promoting and selling. Like games, advertisement produced must be appropriate, understandable and entertaining. Animation is one of the popular communication ways. For example, the cereal advertisements on Koko Krunch by Nestle potrays a character of a chocolate koala bear with the cereal. They make it like that so that they produced an animation about Koko, the koala bear with his cereals, Koko Krunch. This is the way of attracting little children in liking the cereal and persuades parents in buying it. Therefore, media is the primary way introducing animations to the whole world.

Secondly, animation do affects the society in terms of lifestyle, fashion, pop culture and perception. In some country like Japan, animation had become part of their lifestyle. They applied some animation elements on their everyday life. They did ‘cosplay’ event, which normally has something to do with animation. Every single things in Japan involves animation. Besides lifestyle, fashion lines nowadays are heavily influenced by animation. Most of the clothing lines would use the concept of animation in their designs. Besides clothing, hairstyles are also influencing the teenagers. This is because most animation would have cool and stylish hairstyles. So, this will surely become a trend. In addition, pop cultures around the world are also influenced by animation. Most of the animations created are based on our everyday experiences. By doing this, people will easily accept it. The adaptation used must be suitable with the target viewers. Imagine if an animation which uses Malay cultures such as Upin&Ipin which uses the ‘kampung’ style being aired in Japan, which is totally different cultures and background. Surely, they will not get the what the animation is supposed to be. As we all know, most animations are made by the Japanese and they will marketed it to all over the world, thus, this will give a perception on how the Japanese works. Same goes to other animation makers from the other side of the globe. Through this, consumers from all over the world will understand more about other people from other side of the world.

Nowadays, animations are getting a big hit around the globe. Whether it is Japanese, or Western animations, people around the world are attracted to the concept of drawings came to life. The people that can be influenced can be divided into four groups, that is, kids, teenagers, adults and old age. First and foremost, kids are the easiest to be influenced by animations. That’s because they have the curiosity to see the world for the first time. Animations can install more creativity into their brain. Secondly, teenagers are some of the people that are easy to be influenced by animations. In the process of growing up, life isn’t as easy as it seems. Through animation, there are many shows that are suitable for teenagers and can give many good advices about life and help them to be a more positive person. Thirdly, animations can also influence as well as helps adults. In the world, you have to give everything to the society. With animations, adults can relax and enjoy themselves after having a harsh day at work. Lastly, old people can also influenced by animations.  They tend to get nostalgic feelings after seeing animations when they were a child.

Animation has many influences for the world to see. Like other forms of media, it can change some of their ideas and culture. One of the main reasons that consumers are influenced by animation is that like certain films, it gives messages. These message can influence  their ideas of the message. For example, stories and action done in animation can give more ideas and howto and styles about the animation, whether to inform, persuade, of entertain. Another influence of animation is the values that are obtained in animations. They might have good moral values to help society to live a better life while some has controversial values that might cause havoc to the consumer. The next reason  of influences of animation is that it can become an innovation to almost anything. Animations are now innovating on education, since most students needs animation rather than words, and so does other fields that uses animation to its advantages. Last but not least, animation influence consumer based on the story presented to them. Every single things in our life has its own story, and so does animation. Animation can do more storytelling, since it is more flexible to use animation as a storyboard.

In conclusion, animation do leaves affects to the world in terms of media, society, people and messages.

- Juxtaposition (Activity 2) -

For second activity of Juxtaposition, we were asked to write a poem based on a picture given.

1. Chili : describing Love

Love is like eating chilies.
The more we consume the hotter it be.
Though it hurts we still get going
because the hotter the nicer.
That is how Love supposed to be; Hot.

Love is like chili.
The first bite is the hottest.

2. Burning candle : describing Life

Life is just like a burning candle.
We burn ourselves through the times.
Sometimes we burn ourselves for others.
The flame of us ignites the paths,
And when its time,
We are gone.

3. Credit Cards : describing Life/Love

Love is just like credit cards.
With just a swipe we gets happy,
But remember,
To much swipes leave a scar,
Which can lead to an unhappy ending.

- Juxtaposition (Activity) -

In class, we were given a table of words and were asked to choose 3 pairs of numbers between 00-99.
My picked 92, 86 and 83.

Then, we need to make sentences from the words of those numbers and draw out based on the sentences we wrote.
92 = Leave Rock
86 = Oil Spider
83 = Oil Wind

1. There are a bunch of dry leaves underneath the big rock.

2. I sprayed some massage oil on the hairy spider to chase it away.

3. The small oil tank was trembled due to rough wind just now.

Then, we were asked to combine the image together as one. Below is what I got.

After that, we were given pictures of animal both land and water. Once again, we were asked to draw an animal which is a combination of two animal and make it impossible to survive. Below is what i did. I combined an eagle with a fish. This animal (if ever exist) will face difficulty because fish need water and an eagle spend most of its time flying. So how?

- Juxtaposition -

On today's MLC class :
Juxtaposition : placing two variables, side by side and their contrast/similarity are shown through comparison.

Just like what Mr. Radzi said : The act of juxtaposing is to place two objects or word next to each other. When 2 things put side by side, our brain will try to figure out what is the relationship between these two?
What automatically happens is that there is transference of meaning. Usually from something familiar to something less familiar (what is the relationship? Or the Meaning Or the similarities?).
Thus, CONFLICT between LEFT BRAIN and RIGHT BRAIN  happens.

An example of Analogy
Juxtaposition uses an analogy of : a) Metaphor , b) Similes

Metaphor : - a figure of speech in which 2 different things are linked by some similarity.
Example : Life is a box of chocolate, you will never know what you will get! - Forrest Gump

Similes :a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid.
Example : As brave as a lion.

Categories of Analogies
a) Logical Analogies
use similarities in the design, structure or function of to connect back to the subject.
- example : a duck can be compared to a hovercraft because of the fact that both of them can move on the surface of land and water.

b) Affective Analogies
- Emotional similaritiesThe clearest example is the use of an animal to explain a certain characteristic of a person.
- Example : She is like an ant. (Ant = hardworking)

- Mortar and Pestle -

After mind map, we were given images of mortar and pestle as well as logical and associated mind maps of mortar and pestle. Then, we need to choose 3 words from the mind maps. Use the words to illustrate things, activity etc. that are may be used in the year of 20000010 (future).

I have chosen Pain, Game and Fashion.

Pain : For those who suffer from a pain on the sole of the foot, put your foot in the mortar and use the pestle as a massager.

Game : Just like a game of badminton but the shuttlecock is replaced with a mortar and the pestle is used as a racket.

Fashion : The mortar is placed on the head as a hat. The pestle is attached with a string as an accessory or a necklace.
